Livingstone

Island Country

Livingstone is one of Zambia’s most historic towns, originally established in the early 1900s as a key colonial administrative and trade center. Named after the Scottish explorer David Livingstone, who famously documented Victoria Falls in 1855, the city quickly grew due to its strategic location near the Zambezi River.

Before Zambia’s independence in 1964, Livingstone actually served as the country’s capital, making it a hub of governance, culture, and early development. Today, it blends that rich colonial history with modern tourism, standing as Zambia’s gateway to one of the world’s greatest natural wonders.
